Community Service

Dear Customer,

When we say great service is truly our specialty, we mean that striving to serve others to the best of our abilities isn’t just our business: it’s our passion. Inspired by the example of company founder Mark Peters, who recently spent a year volunteering in India and earthquake-struck areas of Pakistan, Adamantine Spine Moving employees have gladly donated time and energy to a number of local charities, including the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic’s Ronald McDonald House, which offers accommodations to families with children receiving critical medical care, and Systems Unlimited of Iowa City, which provides assistance and permanent housing for local folks with developmental disabilities. (Most recently, co-owner Billy Hoke helped fulfill the dream of one Systems Unlimited client by taking him on his first ride ever in a tractor-trailer!)

And we’ve even sought to help our neighbors a little farther away from home: For what amounts to the cost of one large moving job a year, Adamantine Spine provides tuition, room & board, school supplies, and clothes for two children overseas, a 13-year-old girl named Marietu in Benin, West Africa, and a 7-year-old girl named Kimdialove in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. (Hopefully, we’ll be updating you on visits to each child -- during the off-season, of course -- in the not-too-distant future.)

Now, we’re movers, not philosophers. We don’t know much about history, don’t know much biology, but what we do know is that helping other people feels good, not just because the people we help are almost always super grateful, and not just because we get to feel like goody two shoes, but because reaching out to others in ways that aren’t required can change the world, and perhaps more importantly, ourselves. We think it’s that very subtle but unmistakable world changing ju-ju that feels so good. Go ahead, try it some time. You’ll like it.

And if you have suggestions for more service work, please drop us a line. We’re always grateful for another opportunity to be of service.

Sharing the load,

Adam
